ACES ADD YOUNG TALENT UP FRONT
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed rookie forwards Chris Langkow (pictured) and T.J. Battani to one-year ECHL contracts for the 2010-11 season.
The 6-1, 190-pound Langkow, who will turn 21 next month, registered 59 points (21g-38a) in 69 games for the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League in his final season of major juniors. He ranked second on the team in assists, third with a +28 rating, and fifth in points while racking up 17 multiple-point games. His career WHL totals included 154 points (53g-101a) in 263 games. Langkow's cousin, Daymond, has scored 259 career regular season goals in more than 1,000 NHL games since being drafted with the fifth overall pick in 1995. His other cousin, Scott, a goaltender, has appeared in 20 NHL games and remains active in the Deutsch Elite League.
Battani (buh-TAHN-ee), who will still be 20 when training camp starts, also completed his major junior career last season, helping lead Mississauga to the Ontario Hockey League's Eastern Conference Finals with three goals and four assists in 13 playoff games. The 6-1, 202-pound Michigan native helped Kitchener win the 2008 OHL championship and advance to the Memorial Cup Final before losing on home ice to Spokane (WHL). In 232 career OHL regular season games with five different clubs, Battani scored 95 points (42g-53a).
