HOME GAME PROMOTIONAL NOTES
Tonight’s Promotion: Aces Paint The Rink Pink
Details: The Aces will wear pink specialty jerseys and play on a pink colored ice surface to help raise awareness for breast cancer treatment. Jerseys will be auctioned off to fans in attendance following Wednesday night’s game. The Aces have teamed with Breast Cancer Focus Inc. and the American Cancer Society to ensure that 100% of the funds raised during “Paint the Rink Pink” will stay local in Alaska.
The Alaska Aces open up the 2013-14 preseason schedule against the Cincinnati Cyclones, the first of two games in as many nights at Sullivan Arena. It will be the first time both teams meet in ECHL preseason play, despite combining to capture four Kelly Cup championships. The Aces hosted the Las Vegas Wranglers (who were defending their Western Conference title) last season for two preseason games in Anchorage and split the two games with Las Vegas.
NOTE OF THE NIGHT
Entering this season, the Aces own the league’s all-time leading win percentage (.665) and also lead the ECHL for all-time home win percentage (.756) at 257-73-30.
LAST TIME OUT:
This will be the first all-time preseason meeting between the Aces and Cyclones.
- Sean Curry is 6 games away from 700 in his professional career
- Nick Mazzolini is 1 goal away from 100 in his professional career
- Peter Sivak is 7 points away from 300 in his professional career
The two preseason games between the Aces and Cyclones feature three of the last six Kelly Cup champions. Both clubs have won a combined four Kelly Cup titles. The Aces last won the Kelly Cup in 2011 over Kalamazoo and Cincinnati earned titles in 2008 (over Las Vegas) and 2010 (over Idaho).
GO WEST, YOUNG MAN
The 2013 preseason series at Sullivan Arena marks the first time in four years that an Eastern Conference team will visit Sullivan Arena in exhibition play, yet renews a tradition of inter-conference games played in Anchorage for the preseason. The Aces also faced two previous preseason opponents in the Kelly Cup Finals, in 2009 (South Carolina) and 2011 (Kalamazoo).
