The Alaska Aces continue a six game homestand tonight, hosting the Utah Grizzlies at Sullivan Arena in a three-game series. It is the second matchup between the two teams this season (first in Anchorage) and the Aces are 0-1-0 in the series, last defeated 4-3 at Maverik Center on December 10. The ECHL announced on Monday the weekly award for Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week has been given to Shawn Szydlowski of the Fort Wayne Komets, for Dec. 15-21. Frans Tuohimaa stopped all five shooters, along with 26 saves to help the Bakersfield Condors sneak past the Alaska Aces, 4-3 in a shootout before 4,482 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night. Olivier Archambault scored twice and added an assist in over a five minute span to help erase a two goal deficit and lift the Alaska Aces to their seventh straight home victory, 5-2 over the Bakersfield Condors before 4,013 fans at Sullivan Arena on Friday. Greg Wolfe earned three points (2g-1a) and the Alaska Aces used three goals in the first period, cruising to a 6-1 blowout win over the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday at Sullivan Arena. The Aces, recording their largest margin of victory this season, snapped a four-game losing streak and extended their home winning streak to six straight games. Joe Howe made 41 saves, including 20 in the second period and the Alaska Aces were denied by the buzzer on a game-tying chance, dropping a 4-3 defeat to the Utah Grizzlies at Maverik Center on Wednesday. The Aces, bidding for an extra attacker goal in the final seconds, were denied when an apparent Olivier Archambault goal, with no time left, was turned away after his backhander appeared to fall short in beating the final horn. The Alaska Aces, the 2014 Kelly Cup champions, announced today that the Minnesota Wild have assigned goaltender Johan Gustafsson (GUHS-taf-son, JOE-hahn) and left winger Raphael Bussieres (BOOH-see-air, RAF-eye-el) to the Aces from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.   Gustafsson, 22, was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and is 16-29-5 with a shutout and .900 save percentage in 54 career AHL appearances with Iowa.   [READ MORE]
