Happy result...Happy New Year! Aces bang Eagles 4-1 Saturday night

Jan 1st, 2017

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Stephen Perfetto scored twice in the third period, once into an empty net, and goaltender Lukas Hafner stopped 31 shots as the Alaska Aces knocked off the Colorado Eagles in a New Year’s Eve special Saturday night at the Sullivan Arena.

The win reversed the outcome of Friday night’s game between the two Mountain Division rivals.

Peter Sivak got the Aces rolling with his league-leading 23rd goal of the season, directing a Tim Coffman delivery past Eagles netminder Clarke Saunders at 15:56 of the first period. Steve Tarasuk also assisted on the tally.

Alaska made it 2-0 early in the second period as Ben Lake chipped a rebound of Justin Breton’s shot up and over Saunders. The play was preceded by Garet Hunt and Lake sandwiching Colorado defenseman Matt Register behind the net, with the puck then making its way to Breton on the right boards. The goal at 1:56 was Lake’s 5th of the season.

Colorado would cut the Alaska lead in half at 5:18, with Matt Garbowsky popping in a shot for his 8th goal of the season.

Alaska took charge of the third period, with offense proving to be the best defense. Perfetto scored his 13th goal of the season at 11:29 assisted by Marc-Andre Levesque and Mackenzie Stewart. And Perfetto completed the scoring at 18:58, shooting the puck from inside his own blueline into an empty net.

The Alaska penalty killers were stellar once again, denying Colorado each of their five attempts. Meanwhile, the Aces cashed in once out of three opportunities.

Alaska outshot the Eagles 36-32.

The Aces and Eagles finish their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 3:05pm AST at the Sullivan Arena.
